In good lighting conditions the difference is often small or hard to notice at all. Both cameras shoot 360 video at a max resolution of 5.7K 30fps, however the X3 features larger sensors which allows it to take in more detail. The Insta360 X3 tends to shoot video that’s more colourful and dynamic. You can view the video below and look at the screenshots to see the difference in quality. I’ve been shooting with both the Insta360 X3 and GoPro Max since they were released and I’ve used them side by side to see which one produced to better quality video and photos. I’ve tested both cameras underwater and both survived unscathed! Clearly both cameras are designed to survive in some challenging scenarios. The X3 is also waterproof to 10m without a case. The X3 also features a rubber textured body as well as a shutter, power and saved setting button. The camera is completely waterproof without a case an features 6 microphones. The Max features a few manual buttons for power and a shutter. The larger screen on the X3 makes it easier to use and preview media. The GoPro Max is shorter but wider and features an overall smaller screen. Both feature dual sensors which protrude from a rubber clad body and both have a touch screen for manual control. The GoPro Max and Insta360 X3 share some similarities, which is unsurprising as they are both 360 action cameras. GoPro have nearly two decades experience in developing action cameras and they have created their own sensor and colour technology which is second to none. Having said that, don’t sleep on the GoPro Max. It would also appear that the X3 features more unique features and video modes, but are these really useful or are they just a gimmick? Larger sensors allow a camera to capture more detail, colour and work better in low light. In terms of hardware it features larger sensors in its dual lenses. If we just look at the specs it seems like the Insta360 is way ahead.
